Marketing Strategy & Consultancy that brings clarity
Marketing Strategy & Consultancy
Senior marketing direction when you need it
I work with business owners, leadership teams and internal marketers who need clearer direction, an experienced outside perspective or additional senior marketing capacity.
That might mean developing a marketing strategy, reviewing where current activity is falling short, guiding an existing team or working as a fractional marketing lead for a period of time to provide direction, momentum and accountability.
The starting point is always the business: where you want to go, who you need to reach and where marketing can make the greatest difference.
When Marketing needs clearer direction
Sometimes the issue is not a lack of marketing. It is that too much is happening without a clear enough sense of priority.
You may be investing across several channels, working with different suppliers or managing marketing internally but still questioning where time and budget should be focused.
Or the business may be changing – launching something new, entering another market, repositioning, looking for growth or deciding how marketing should support the next stage.
That is where experienced strategic input can help.
What should marketing be doing for the business?
I look beyond individual channels and tactics to understand the wider commercial picture.
Depending on the brief, the work may include:
- Business and marketing objectives
- Target audiences and customer behaviour
- Market and competitor analysis
- Positioning and value proposition
- Messaging and communications priorities
- Customer journey
- Marketing channels and opportunities
- Content and campaign priorities
- Budget and internal resources
- Measurement, KPIs and reporting
The aim is not to create a strategy document for the sake of it. It is to establish clear priorities that make future marketing decisions easier.
Marketing audit and strategic reviews
You may not need a completely new strategy. Sometimes the most valuable starting point is an independent review of what is already happening.
That can include your current marketing activity, website and digital presence, messaging, customer journey, performance data, internal resources and external suppliers.
From that review, we can identify what is working, what needs attention, what should stop, where the strongest opportunities lie and what should happen next.
From insight to a clear roadmap
Our work typically follows a clear sequence from understanding the business through to implementation and measurement.
01 — Understand the business
We start with the commercial objectives, customers, market and what is driving the need for change.
02 — Review the current position
I assess existing marketing, performance, resources and the wider competitive environment.
03 — Set the direction
We establish the audiences, positioning, priorities and strategic decisions that should guide the marketing.
04 — Build the roadmap
Strategy becomes action: what needs to happen, in what order, who needs to be involved and where
resources should be focused.
05 — Measure and refine
We agree what success should look like and which measures will tell us whether marketing is contributing
to the wider business objectives.
Strategic consultancy or fractional marketing leadership
Not every business needs a full-time senior marketer.
I can work on a defined consultancy project or provide ongoing fractional marketing leadership – working with the management team, guiding internal marketing resources, coordinating specialist suppliers and helping ensure that marketing priorities stay aligned with the wider business.
For some clients, my role finishes with the strategy and roadmap. For others, I continue into implementation – supporting the internal team, helping establish campaigns and content, or taking responsibility for specific areas of delivery.
Clients work directly with me, so there are no layers of account management between the strategy and the person responsible for helping move it forward.
Experience across very different businesses and buying decisions
Over more than 25 years, I have worked across consumer products, retail and ecommerce, medical devices, tourism, professional services, software, manufacturing, property and other B2B and consumer markets.
From socks to housing developments – and plenty in between.
That breadth matters. Marketing a frequently purchased consumer product is very different from marketing a professional service, a medical device, a software solution or a high-value property purchase.
The principles of good marketing remain consistent, but the customer journey, level of consideration, channels, messaging and measures of success can be completely different.
That experience helps me look at the business first and recommend an approach that fits the market, customer and commercial objective – rather than forcing every client into the same marketing model.

“We have worked with Sharon on a range of projects. Initially we were keen to look at online marketing and SEO and we tried a few companies before choosing Optimise Marketing. We felt working with Sharon was a great match for us as we are hands on in our company and we could see that she intended to give us the level of personal attention we pride ourselves on delivering to our customers. We felt she was interested in the growth of our company and really understood how niche our sector within the wider industry is and this is something that can be hard to emphasise to people outside of the “wedding bubble”.
We have since worked with Sharon on a complete rebrand, which was very exciting/terrifying and we feel we could not have achieved so much and in such a short space of time without her guidance and support."

Marketing Strategy & Consultancy FAQs
What is the difference between a marketing strategy and a marketing plan?
A marketing strategy establishes the direction – objectives, audiences, positioning and priorities. The marketing plan translates that strategy into specific activity, responsibilities and actions.
Do I need a full marketing strategy?
Not necessarily. Some businesses need a comprehensive strategy; others need an experienced review of a particular challenge, market or area of marketing. The scope should reflect the decisions that actually need to be made.
Can you help implement the strategy?
Yes. I can continue to support implementation, work alongside an internal team, coordinate specialist suppliers or provide additional marketing capacity where required.
How do you measure whether the strategy is working?
The right measures depend on the objectives. They might include leads, sales, bookings, conversion rates, customer acquisition or market development, supported by relevant channel-level data.
Need clearer marketing direction?
If you are reviewing your marketing, planning for growth or need experienced input before deciding what to do next, tell me a little about the business and the challenge you are trying to solve.
